When you are storing carbs, they are stored with a large amount of water. So if your body becomes dehydrated, it can use the carb and claim the water that comes with it to restore some hydration.
If you remove all the carbs by being in ketosis, the body does not have these extra stores of water. So when the body becomes dehydrated there isn't much it can do. The only solution is to drink more water more frequently to avoid (even minor) dehydration in the first place. Thanks, I've read the chapter.
They make a variety of arguments for 'adequate hydration' and avoiding dehydration. They talk about drinking litres of ice cold water as a way to lose weight (based on the calories-in, calories-out myth), and they bring up the starvation mode myth. However, they still don't appear to give any evidence for why someone on keto needs more water than someone who is not on keto. They don't talk about keto at all. I apologize if I wasn't clear in my question. My question is not related to whether drinking 8, 10, 12, or 15 glasses of water a day will help someone lose weight. My question is more science-based: It is necessary for someone who is in ketosis to drink more water than someone who is not in ketosis?
Calories-in, calories-out myth? It's not a myth, it's just not the only thing effecting weight loss.
Unless einstein was wrong with the whole E=MC2, calories in minus calories out is the entire reason for weight loss. Calories out just happens a lot easier on Keto because it's easier for out body to burn our own fat and not our muscles, and we don't get so hungry because we're always burning fat, so our metabolism doesn't drop into 'starvation mode' levels, and we continue to burn calories. TLDR; weight loss on Keto is still Calories in - Calories out in the end.
